So it has been a fair few weeks of no breakthrough of ideas, however fortunately for me and unfortunately for Margaret Thatcher her untimely death helped me to generate a potential idea. I have always had a keen interest on politics and its affects on society in the eighties and this was shown in my dissertation as I involved it in there as well. Even though I wasn’t born at the time of Thatchers reign, i know her views and actions were taken in two very different ways. Even after death people still showed either resent or support for the work she did for the country. I would like to use these views in a piece where I could use facts, statements and personal views to showcase different views. I have previously posted about wanting to use a monologue, and I have found a perfect one. Taken from Road by Jim Cartwright, the monologue of Skinlad offers an insight into a poor northern mans life, who maintains an angry secret maybe as a result of poverty and his way of living, which is ultimately a problem caused by certain acts passed by thatcher. The monologue could act as an insight not only to the emotions and mood of the nation, but to show a popular culture and trend of the eighties, which were skinheads.
